Victorian Birdhouse

The Victorian style of home décor is unlike any other style of modern décor.  It has been derived from the 1500’s style of created the Tudor and Elizabethan era in England.  It is known for its eclectic combination of traditional décor from Asia, Europe and the Middle East.  Victorian décor is noted for its ornamentation and elaborate designs and wood working.  Victorian décor is still extremely popular today and you can find numerous furniture pieces, pictures, and wall hangings at home décor stores.   Victorian birdhouse décor is among the most popular Victorian style home decorations.

A Victorian birdhouse is typically designed much like a traditional Victorian era home.  Flat and solid colors are often used for the main color, and the trimming of the birdhouse usually is painted white.  Often times the woodworking on a Victorian birdhouse is more elaborate than that of a regular birdhouse.  They often have elaborately designed walls and roof tops.  In addition if the birdhouse is made from wood, rather than metal, it is often marbleizes so it closely resembles stone.  Many birdhouses made in this style also have elaborate ornamentation incorporated into the stand and the perch.  It is common to see elaborate designs in the wood working, or metal working, when it comes to stands and perches.

Because Victorian birdhouses are so elaborate and beautiful they are most commonly used for home décor, rather than outdoors.  However, it is not unheard of to place an elaborately styled birdhouse outdoors for the birds to enjoy.  Often times individuals who have Victorian styled houses keep the theme of their house flowing into their yard or garden.   Placing an elaborate birdhouse in your yard is bound to draw attention of birds, as well as friends and neighbors.  However, the downfall to placing such a beautiful birdhouse outdoors is that it is not designed to withstand the weather.  Often times these birdhouses must be taken indoors for harsh weather.  If they are not they often wither and their elaborate designs fade and break.
